JAKARTA INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL

Jakarta International School (JIS) has set the standard for international schooling in Indonesia. Its located in  Terogong Raya Street No. 33, Cilandak, Jakarta. With five students, Jakarta International School was founded by UN workers in 1951. These pioneers introduced relevant schooling in English for children of expats in the newfound Republic of Indonesia. The school was originally named Joint Embassy School (JES) after partner British, American, Australian, and (later) his Yugoslav embassy. Just over a decade later, in 1978, JES be J.I.S. Jakarta International School has three campuses totalling 46 acres (190,000 m2) and is one of the largest international schools in the world according to H2L2 Architecture. Pattimura Elementary (K-5) is located in the Kebayoran Baru area. Pondok Indah Elementary (K-5) and Cilandak (6-12) are adjacent to each other in Pondok Indah in South Jakarta. Facilities are mostly air-conditioned and include 184 classrooms, four theaters, three cafeterias, three tennis courts, six gymnasiums, six playing fields, three swimming pools, 18 science laboratories, design technology facilities, and four libraries with a total of 130,000 volumes. The school has a three-level food court, medical clinic, a school bus system run by the Bluebird company and an ambulance.

The school consists of four levels, namely Early Childhood, Elementary School, Middle School, and High School. In Early Childhood, the program is divided into two levels: EC I and EC II, starting school at 7:30 AM and finishing the day at 12:00 PM noon. Elementary school students to learn: language arts, mathematics, science, social studies inquiry approach. Elementary school students also attend classes in the field of Physical Education, Library, Art, Music, Technology, and Indonesian. The Middle School serves approximately 570 students who range in age from 10 to 14. Middle School students and teachers who share the same classes belong to a Learning Community (LC). LC's build community as members share academic, recreational, service and other experiences together. The High School includes grades 9-12 and serves approximately 850 students between the ages of 14 and 19 on the Cilandak Campus. For Early Childhood and Elementary School, the student can use bus service in association with the Blue Bird Company, the service is available to and from school. JIS has a dress code, but no uniform. When outdoors, children in EC are required to wear a sun hat for UV protection.

However, although the JIS school security was tight but there is still a crime to the school. Crowded lately the news that the occurrence of sexual crimes to JIS kindergarten student, the perpetrator is the school janitor. The crime occurred in the toilet, from the stories of victims, perpetrators are 5 peoples: 4 mens and 1 woman. Victim has suffered venereal disease which is transmitted by the perpetrator. Previously, the kindergarten student (initial AK) JIS become victims of abuse by janitors in the school. The mother of the victim said the 5 -year -old son repeatedly molested the perpetrators. "I started to smell strange signs on my son, like so much quiet, lost weight, and like any delirious sleep since last February. Suspected my son was tortured and abused since February" said the victim's mother, Monday, April 14, 2014, in Jakarta. According to a lawyer of the victim, there are indications of other students become victims of similar crimes because these crimes are structured. And this conjecture appears after about 100 parents gathered on Tuesday to discuss the case. "There are indications there are other victims" said the victim's lawyer.

Of the case, the headmaster threatened JIS fired. Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) through the Directorate of Early Childhood Education, Non-formal and Informal (PAUDNI) Foundation asked the Jakarta International School (JIS) to fire the principal and assistant teachers who supervise AK, student victims of sexual harassment in the school toilet. According to the Director General of PAUDNI Lydia Freyani Hawadi, asserted that the JIS problem because in addition to sexual crimes, nursery school is also known to not have the permission to organize teaching and learning activities. Previously, Kemendikbud have a team to conduct an audit of preschool JIS. It follows the discovery of sexual crimes in schools conducted by the school janitor. In the audit, found some irregularities were found in the school administration, the absence of which permits foreign teachers to teach, misuse of laws by JIS foundation, the use of the curriculum and the lack of teaching of Indonesian language and history. Over the case, threatened JIS closed. Efforts of the Ministry of Education and Culture M Nuh, ensuring reproductive system lesson in the curriculum of 2014. He said that the policy is one of prevention of child sexual abuse. In the curriculum, 1st grade children have already started to be given lessons reproductive system and enter the child's educational empowerment.
